Travel Edition 3- “The Devils Bathtub”

My Travel Date: July 2016

The Devils Bathtub – VA

One thing about me is I LOVE TO TRAVEL. I took a trip to the famous “Devils Bathtub” in FT Blackmore Virginia with a friend in the month of July.

It was a beautiful cool morning when we set out from the North Carolina mountains to explore a new area. We had our comfy hiking clothes on, bathing suits. Tennis shoes and bags. We were so excited to see something new and go on an ADVENTURE.

We started out doing good, had breakfast and good music to get us there. When we got to the area we started to look for where it was. I will say, this is when things got interesting. We of course, managed to get lost. Somehow on a extremily hilly dirt road with houses. We saw houses with no doors (a man sitting in the door way of what looked like a vacant house just staring… creepy) and things that didn’t seem like your “every day life”. Or at least not to us. My friend was panicking, something about how a movie called “The Hills have eyes”. She was telling me about how it was reminding her of this movie and she was getting worried. When I say worried… Like about to panic worried (I had never seen the movie, so of course I had to after this adventure)

In an attempt to find our way back to the main road I stopped and asked a lady in her yard for directions. She kindly told me how to get back but… also told us to be careful. She went on a spill about how some man who lived near by that tried to hit her with his vehicle and more. ODD encounter for sure, I thought she was crazy too, but she helped us!

We escaped the creepy hilly area and found a cute little store. They told us how to find the trail.

We made it to the starting parking lot FINALLY. The parking area was tight. Small gravely/dirt parking lot.

When we started the hike, my research said it was a “difficult” hike and that it is a 7.3 mile loop hole. We did NOT do the whole 7.3 miles. We hiked to the “Devils bathtub” and then enjoyed the water and turned around to head back to our vehicle.

I personally did not think the hike was too hard. Our tennis shoes got soaked from crossing multiple water ways along the hike, so water shoes may be better if you have them. I don’t remember ever being winded or struggling. It did quickly warm up, so, the water along the way was a HUGE plus.

I will say, when we started to get close you knew!! We came upon a beautiful, like absoultly stunning pool area. The water was magnificent. I felt so mesmerized by it. Like my eyes couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

We continued past this beautiful water where we located the “Devils bathtub”. It was smaller then I expected but still beautiful. The water so clear, the rocks and formation beautifully created. Almost like you were imagining it.

Of course we jumped into the tub and swimming area multiple times. The water?? FREEZING.

I can PERSONALLY say that this was a beautiful experience that I do recommend people do at least once in their life time.

I have attached several photos that I took with my camera at the bottom of this blog post!

I obtained my information to find this place at the following links I’m referencing below:

AS ALWAYS, take any hikes at YOUR OWN RISK, as did I. IF you cannot swim or aren’t a good swimmer you may not want to get in the water. I do not recommend doing something you’re not physically capable of.

Finally, Respect the earth, respect nature, and #LeaveNoTraceBehind

Much love, B

Travel Edition 1, Rainbow Falls & Turtle Back Falls

My Travel Date: July 2016 & September 2016

I AM GOING TO START OUT BY SAYING THE HIKES CAN BE DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL. PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES AT THIS LOCATION. PLEASE BE SMART. PLEASE BE CAREFUL. REMEMBER FHE LOST. ALL BLOGS ATR MY EXPERIENCE, MY OPINIONS AND INFORMATION IVE FOUND WITH SITES TO REFERENCE (SEE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POSTS).

So!

Two travel dates? YES ABSOLUTELY.

I enjoyed the falls that much that I went more then one time. Psst, that might be a sign that I totally recommend this (as long as you’re safe).

So to start off with, I did this hike with a friend and my stepmom, at two different times.

The hike is more on the difficult side. I would say that the hike is mostly uphill on the way up the hike. Downhill? Aka what I’m calling the way back down.. way easier but you also might be putting a lot on your knees.

The research I found on rainbow falls is below (but of course as always I put the references of my information below)

– Rainbow falls is “one of the tallest waterfalls in the region”

– Height, 125 feet

– “Trail length, 1.5 mile” (I do believe it’s 1.5 one way)

Here are a few photos of me taken by friends, family and photos I’ve taken of rainbow falls!

Looking at these photos I hope others can take in the breath taking views like me! I did venture down too the bottom of the falls area, I will say that it isn’t easy getting down there. If your going to this I will say like always, BE SAFE.

Above Rainbow Falls is Turtle Back Falls!

Turtle back falls is “around a 10-15 foot plunge due to the shape of the rock”. A lot of people come to this location and slide off of the famous rock! I was told by frequent fliers to be very careful not to get sucked down to the rainbow falls, the people that told me stated it could be dangerous and potentially deadly. Again, just what they told me while I was there.

Turtle back falls is around .25 miles above Rainbow falls.

This is a video of me going off Turtle back falls myself! As an adrenaline lover it was exhilarating.

I will of course say, this can be dangerous. Their have been reports of people passing away at the top of Rainbow Falls and such. so I always say BE SAFE. Do all of these trails at YOUR OWN RISK!

As always, respect the earth. Respext nature. Be safe, and #LeaveNoTrace.
